Baby Wearing

When my mom was staying with us, right after FVB was born, she was itching to get him into the Moby Wrap.  I had purchased one at the kid’s consignment store and had planned on using it, just not right away.  I had sort of thought that they needed to be a certain weight, size, etc, but according to the wrap instructions, it was good for babies as little as 5 pounds.  I was nervous about it (I was nervous about everything, but who isn’t as a new mom?), but I figured if mom had raised us, she could be trusted with her grandson.  We got into a routine where I would bring her FVB around 5am and head back to bed.  When I stumbled out an hour or more later, he was always snuggled up in the Moby wrap and she had accomplished at least 10 tasks as he slept on.

To be honest, I don’t think I really wore him at all while my mom was with us.  I started getting worried that FVB was bonding more with her than he was with me, so I gave it a try.  It definitely didn’t feel natural the first few times that I wore it, but after a few times we became old pros.  And now he LOVES it.  It is a MUST if you want to get anything done in the first few months. Plus, it’s really good for bonding.  I tell my mom now that she trained him really well; we use the Moby to get him to sleep and it works almost every time!

Now that he’s a big boy, he goes in the “big boy hold” with his legs dangling.  AND, he can face out or in.  I use it grocery shopping, doing errands, walking the dogs, and doing chores around the house. Sometimes he sleeps, and sometimes he happily watches as I work.  It’s been a life saver for us and is SO much easier than the car seat or stroller when out and about.  I put the wrap on before I leave the house and just pop him out of the car seat and into his wrap when we arrive at our destination.

If you are expecting, I highly recommend this.  Also, I’d purchase 2 so that you can have one handy when one is in the wash (we run into this issue often).  I don’t have another one, but I hear they are easy to sew.  Maybe one day I’ll figure that out……

Am I too big for this?!?
